Can You Wear Jeans to Work?

While the term office attire may refer to an already defined set of clothing, office casual still leaves some room for interpretation. Khakis and chino women's jackets s, for example, are about as good a choice as say, denims were the former not so common. A good outfit with jeans is the best way for any stylish and fashionable guy to make a statement in the office. Here is how to pull denims off with elan for any offices Casual Friday.

Shopping for Your Office Denims
Looking for jeans that make your assets look good is hard enough and now it is even harder because they have to be office-appropriate. What should you look for in your office outfit jeans?

Dark colors are preferable:
You are going to the office, not the mall. The darker the shade of the fabric of your jeans, the more formal it will look. Wearing too-light denims will make you look too casual and even unkempt. Unless you are working at a McDonalds counter, you should definitely go dark.

Straight is safe:
While most guys today prefer bootcuts because of their slimming and lengthening properties, straight will be your most flexible option. That is because straight-cut jeans can be paired with just about everything from flip-flops (although they should not be worn in the office) to oxfords. You need not get ruler-straight pairs; some premium manufacturers like Diesel can make straight cuts look cool.

The jeans should fit and fit right: When trying on jeans that you will wear to the office, look for pairs that fit you like your favorite chinos they fall straight down without showing off too much seat. It is office faux pas to wear too-tight jeans, even if they accentuate some of your better traits. Remember, the assets you want to sell are the ones in your briefcase, not the ones in your briefs.

Making It Work
Although you will probably be wearing your office denims with just your shirt on, you should also see how every pair looks with your office blazer or sport coat. In some instances, jeans that look dynamite with the shirt alone will look disastrous once you don the jacket (such as when the jacket is the exact same shade as the jeans).

Your accessories, your belt and shoes in particular, will be critical in making your office denim look work. A good thick leather belt with a medium to large buckle is a good idea in most cases. Match the color of your belt to that of the leather shoes you will be wearing. Oxfords will be your safest choice for shoes, although loafers or even all-black sneakers can also be pulled off for Casual Friday.

If you are looking for existing jeans in your closet to wear to work, automatically eliminate all pairs with frayed cuffs, rips at the knee or anything that could be described as deconstructed. Even pairs with ornate details or colorful stitching should not be considered. While they are a great fit for a night out to the clubs, they are inappropriate and downright sloppy for the workplace.

Wearing jeans to the office takes just a little bit of practice because you have to tone down and moderate how you would usually wear denims. Once you have gotten the hang of it, though, it is a very versatile style that can take you from the boardroom in the morning to the barroom at night.
